Upper School FAQs

Student Body
Ninety-four students are enrolled at The Atonement Catholic Academy College Preparatory High School. With the opening of the new Upper School building, complete with a full auditorium, two gyms, and 5 laboratory rooms, the Upper School plans to expand to two-hundred fifty (250) Upper Scholars. 

92% of the student body is Catholic and 8% come from other faith traditions. 57% of the student body is female and 43% is male.

Faculty
Our faculty members demonstrate a strong commitment to their students and are highly involved in after-school academic and co-curricular activities. Every faculty member brings professional expertise and a commitment to the Catholic faith to the classroom. All faculty members take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium during Mass at the beginning of school, and their oath is maintained on record in the school files.

Sixteen faculty teach in the Upper School, ten have advanced degrees, and one is an ordained minister. All hold the necessary and appropriate credentials as prescribed by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department.

Dress Code and Uniform
All Upper Scholars must adhere to a specific uniform that can be purchased at Parker Uniform.  Students must wear the prescribed uniform when on campus and when representing the school off campus.

Scheduling
The Atonement Catholic Academy has a traditional program with a regular schedule. The format of the schedule is: seven (7) classes a day and Mass, five (5) times a week. The school follows a semester system and the program of study prepares the student for success in college. Programs are designed to meet the high standards of major universities in the United States.

Class Size
The targeted class size school-wide is 25 students per class, with a student to teacher ratio of 7:1. More advanced AP classes will be smaller, with an average of 10 students.

Honor Studies
As a general rule, students scoring above the 90th percentile are encouraged to take honors level classes which better challenge their intellectual abilities. Honors courses help prepare students for the AP examinations.

Advanced Placement Program
The advanced placement (AP) program at The Atonement Catholic Academy offers a college/university level curriculum for upper school students. AP courses assess students by college/university level standards. It is expected that students who sign up for AP courses will be highly motivated and will make the AP course and exam a priority. Advanced placement is offered in:

• English Literature and Composition
• English Language and Composition
• United States History
• Calculus AB and BC
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics I & II, and Physics C

Success in advanced placement courses allows students to earn college credits while attending The Atonement Catholic Academy College Preparatory School.

Interscholastic Sports
The mission of The Atonement Catholic Academy is to strive for excellence in the physical, the intellectual, and the spiritual virtues through a challenging course of classical and Catholic education. As such, The Atonement Catholic Academy recognizes the importance of interscholastic sports to the development of a young man and woman. Participation in team sports not only has physiological benefits, but it also develops the virtues necessary for success in the world: perseverance, compassion, teamwork, discipline, and hard work. Research has shown that 95% of Fortune 500 CEOs participated in high school athletics. All students participate in an interscholastic sport for at least two seasons, although most students find the experience so fulfilling that they participate for all four years.
