Newman Choir | Grades 9 - 11
The course acts as a prerequisite to Vox Mariae, our 10th - 12th Grade Choir; Freshmen and new students (grades 9 - 11) make up the Newman Choir.
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a wide array of musical knowledge, bettering and enriching their time in The Academy choirs and beyond. In this course we will:
Vox Mariae | Grades 10 - 12
The capstone ensemble for every student at The Atonement Catholic Academy is Vox Mariae, which translates to "Voice of Mary." This ensemble is comprised of returning sophomores and juniors, and all seniors regardless of previous time in the Academy. Students encounter high-level repertoire of various choral traditions, particularly that of the English Choral tradition unique to our Ordinariate heritage and identity. Vox Mariae performs music of composers such as Palestrina, Bach, Tallis and Byrd, Howells and Stainer, as well as contemporary composers such as Ešenvalds, Rutter, and many living American composers. It is the goal of this ensemble to impart upon its members the importance of collaborative skills within and without the context of music, a deep appreciation for and understanding of the Holy Mass, and a life-long love of the beautiful gift that is music.
Chamber Choir | Grades 10 - 12 (by audition)
The only choir currently available as an elective, Chamber Choir is open to any member of Vox Mariae by audition. This ensemble serves as an outward-reaching arm of the department and partakes in activities such as recruitment trips to other schools, performances at venues around town, as well as joint events with the Choir of Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church.
