This week, I am writing to ask your help with something near to my heart.
At my previous school, I established a core group of parents for each grade between 7th and 12th who served as grade-level “Sponsors.” I gave them special responsibility for working with students to plan and execute extracurricular events in the spirit of the school's mission. These included dances, banquets, spirit weeks, and other opportunities that allowed students to exercise virtuous leadership outside the classroom. Looking back, the establishment of the “Class Sponsors Organization” was a turning point in parent involvement at the school. It was especially good at capturing the volunteer energies of parents of older students. I believe a similar structure could benefit Atonement. Therefore—
The inaugural meeting of the Class Sponsors Organization will take place on Wednesday, September 11 @ 7 p.m. in St. Anthony Hall. We will discuss grade-level events and how you can become a Sponsor.
The PTC will continue to carry out its annual calendar of activities, and its members—if they have a student(s) in 7th-12th—are encouraged to serve as Sponsors. I also hope that this new means of involvement will appeal to parents who up till now have not perceived a clear route to active support of their child’s school experience.
So, if you are a 7th-12th parent who wants to help invigorate Atonement’s student life program, I am looking forward to seeing you on September 11th! In the meantime, please continue to pray for us, as we pray for you and your children.
