Lower School students, Prek 3 through 2nd Grade, participate in a daily general music class that is founded in the traditional Kodaly, Orff Schulwerk, and Ward methods of music education. In music class, each student learns foundations of music literacy including steady beat/tempo, Kodaly Solfege pitch and rhythm identification, Catholic Mass Chant, Folk dancing, and early music theory concepts such as form and modality. The general music class is intended to give students essential developmental skills to form a lifelong relationship with music and is in direct correlation to the Classical and Catholic mission of The Atonement Catholic Academy in the formation of a complete person that is whole in body, mind, and spirit.
Lower School students, 3rd through 5th grade, transition from the general music class to a full choir environment where students learn and prepare music to be sung for daily mass and concerts.
