Dear Academy Family, There are two items in this week’s Crusader Times that I would like to direct your attention to, one past and one future. First, the past. Last Friday, we had an especially delightful “Upper School Tea” in the Saint John Paul II Library. The Upper School Tea is a long-standing Academy tradition in which the seniors take the lead in formally welcoming incoming freshman and transfer students to the Upper School. This year’s seniors were very gracious hosts, and I and other faculty were impressed by the unusual maturity and, as Jane Austen might have put it, “conversation” of this year’s freshmen. We expect great things from both. Take a look below at pictures from the event and at the transcript of the speech given by Isabella McHugh ’22 on behalf of her class. Now, the future. This coming Wednesday, after the well-timed respite of Labor Day weekend, the Academy looks forward to hosting His Excellency Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller of San Antonio. Archbishop Gustavo will be concelebrating the school Mass with the Ordinariate’s own Bishop Lopes who will be visiting from Houston. As a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, we are thankful for the Archbishop’s support and look forward to making him welcome. Academy parents joining us for Mass that day are reminded to first check in at the front desk. Let us continue to pray for one another. Our Lady of The Atonement—Pray For Us! Your servant, Matthew David Watson Head of School
